Song 34 - Ring Them Bells by Heart featuring Layne Staley

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRYGLTN9q2s

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I was on a vaccation and had no internet access. I think this time, rather than trying to catch up, I'll just pick up where I left off. (song 34)

This is a beautiful song!!! I love this Bob Dylan cover. Gah, one time where I like a cover better than an original. jgliseilguj/;sj!!! It's just so amazing! I cry/almost cry everytime I hear it.

I'm not much of a Heart fan but I LOVE Layne Staley and this combonation of voices is woven together beautifully. I feel bad for not updating dor so long and giving you such a short update but my mind is just. not. working.! I blame it on the insane heat of today (40 something C) and the crazy studying for my culminatings--they've fried my brain. Anyways, have a great day

Song 33 - Bullet With Butterfly Wings by The Smashing Pumpkins

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNMwZbcSdzc

My favourite Smashing Pumpkins song!

This was when Billy didn't look like a Voldemort twin, even...kinda cute. But onto more important matters aka the music.

Some say Billy's voice is to whiney in this song, I think it's amazing for the song. Too rough a voice wouldn't suite the song and ruin it. Also the instruments are sooo awesome! The beat is so heavy and almost army like, I love it. gliurliiwrlaiou, so freakin epic.

Gah, going in such random directions with this blog posts...my 2 favourite parts of the song are the acapella intro and right when the verses change into the choruses.

OK my mind isn't coming up with much more interesting to say, so good night.

Song 32 - You've Got to Hide Your Love Away by The Beetles

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKHA2AGbXtI

Who doesn't love The Beetles? I say you're crazy if you don't like atleast 1 song of theirs. I know I could've put up much more popular songs like Hey Jude. I really felt like putting this one up though. It's not even my favourite Beatles song, though it is high on the list.

See I heard Eddie Vedder doing a cover of this song in the movie I am Sam, while watching it in religion class. I thought it was a really cool song. While Eddie did a pretty good cover I wanted to hear what the Beatles original sounded like. I have to say it's absolutley freaking fantastic. Blew Eddie away.

Not only are John's lyrics and voice amazing, but for me the music (instruments) are really the high light of this song for the most part. I can't find the right words to explain it -total blog fail- sorry. ...Tamborine is really epic.

My favourite vocal part is when John goes "Hey you've got to hide your love away!" I live how the word hey is sort of shouted. ^^

Until tom,

Song 31 - Superman's Dead by Our Lady Peace

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CBBtorFg2I

I don't really like the video though, the singer kinda creeps me out in it. It's a great song, nonetheless.

I used to be a much bigger OLP fan than I am now, however this song has stuck with me. It doesn't seem to stop rocking. More great Canadian, alternative, 90s stuff = yay! :)

I don't really get half the lyrics. Ex "Doesn't anybody know that the world's a subway?" but the other half (which I do understand) cinveys an interesting message, which I like. Carrying on about being ordinary in everyway, going through the motions of life, until you finally creak. Just go crazy! Burst out of the phoniness and just show your true self. I mean, it can really suck being part of the crowd.

I guess everyone who pretemds to be 'normal' really has their clock ticking. We're all gonna go crazy one day, right?

Song 30 - Small Town Dead by Bleeker Ridge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSwkRQ2pHU8

More Canadian goodness! We do create more than  pop crap like Justin Beiber, yay! Bleeker Ridge.

This song is off their same debut album of the same name. I'm sure these guys are gonna go far. They have a pop punk sound with a bit of a rock edge in it. They sound great live, I heard about 1/2 their set in Novemeber. Opening for Three Days Grace. (Yes, it's the same show where I saw My Darkest Days play.) Too bad I missed the first 1/2 though, stupid traffic. Oh well.

I love this song, it's so fun! I can't say I've ever lived in a small town, but hey I can still like the song. You don't relate perfectly to EVERY song you like right? Sometimes you've just gotta enjoy the song for it's awesomeness. Afterall, lyrics are only 1 aspect of the song. You've still got the drums, guitar, and bass (add or remove some inturments depending on the band) in every song. So I lovee this song.

Also, did anyone notice that Ricky plays the cop in the video. Check if you don't believe me ^^

Song 29 - Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg

I know, I know. This is the same old generic song that gets put up practically every time Nirvana's mentioned. I can't help it, even though Kurt came to loathe the song and all, I can't help but to love this song. It's one of my favourite Nirvana songs. And Nirvana is one of my favourite bands. (3rd favourite if you're wondering) They do have MANY other great songs, don't get me wrong.

Man, I wish school assemblies/pep rallies were this cool! Instead of mini torture sessions.

I'm totally in the mood for teen spirit. First of all I'm a teen so that works. Also it's been raining for more than a week straight, which really helps you get in the mood. Been dealing with pop crap constantly due to certain family members. School stress. Gah, TEEN SPIRIT!!! And you know what I mean, not pop, follow all the trends, bright, fake teen spirit. I mean fucking real teen spirit!

Blast it, head bang, dance! Do it! You know you want to. If you're a teen you can relate. If you're older? Well, you were a teen once you can relate. If you're younger? You'll be a teenager soon enough you can relate.

Gah feeling moody can't think of much else.

Song 28 - Save Me by My Darkest Days

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC15agHFjd8
(link to live video)

I chose to link to a live video rather than a studio version link because this link is special. I was at that concert! Wooo! I can even hear myself scream at some point in the video.

Anywho...MDD = yet another Canadian band. Go Canada. This is one of my favourite MDD songs because it's not so sex based, it's more about the actual love in a relationship. "Only your love can save me!" for example. Unlike, say...Porn Star Dancing.

If you want you can go check out the album version too, it's pretty good both ways.

Song 27 - Song 2 by Blur

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSbBvKaM6sk

Maybe I should've posted this as song # 2 . LOL. Oh well, I didn't think of it soon enough.

This just a fun, get your mood up, immature, party song. Really opposite to yesterdays posts. Well you know what? I need a fun song to get over monday blah blues. I think everyone does.

I've noticed that this is one of the few songs where the singer doesn't change his voice to an american sounding (or Canadian sounding!) accent, it just stays as a British accent. Kinda rare I've noticed. Makes the song even cooler, if you ask me.

Anyways, have fun. Hope your Monday wasn't too bad, I know I'm wishing for the weekend already!

Song 26 - Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjNjJR9jUGo

Another song with many Pearl Jam members? A political message? Anyone else see a theme tonight? LOL.

I didn't do it on purpose, I was just in the mood to listen to these songs. Meh, they're both great songs so who cares?

I have to say I LOVE the combonation of Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder's voices. They fit togehter so well! They have to do a duet with eachother some time soon!

The whole band was put together in order to make an album to comemorate Andrew Wood. To me though, in this particular song I don't hear the influence. I don't know, maybe I'm just being really dumb and not hearing it? If you do hear please comment bellow and explain it to me. I would greatly appreciate. :) Anyways, what I do hear in the song is that they have no problem stealing from the mouths of decadence-the wealthy, greedy, snobs who care  about nothing but themselves. In the meantime there are people in the world missing basic necesities, such as food. To stand up agains this they're going on a hunger strike. Inspiring? I think so. Maybe I'll go on a hunger strike sometime soon...

Song 25 - Jeremy by Pearl Jam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS91knuzoOA

Sorry another double up day. I was sooo tired yesterday, I couldn't do like anything. Anyways...onto le chanson.

I know a lot of people rip on PJ and just say they're Nirvana rip offs. Now I don't think that's true at all, I think there's a clear difference betweem the 2 bands sounds. You have to be nearly def if you can't distinguish between the 2. Not to mention they were rival bands xD Though I do like a few PJ songs (hence this post) I personally think Nirvana IS better.

This song has an important political message. I think this often lost in more modern music, not so many songs with messages. This song also is not just about big headline news. Infact, the very opposite. It's about paying attention to the 'small' tragedies that happen on a daily basis and not just going numb to it simply because we 'see too much of this stuff too often' or because the media doesn't shove it in ou faces.

Sorry for going on a little rant there...I'll end it off on a happier note. Something that kinda ruins the value of the song. I thought the lyrics were "Jeremy's more than class d" ad my lil sis thought it was "Emily's smoke'n weed." I thought hers was too funny. lol.

Onto the next song,

(Kids is a very close second) It helps that Andrew's cute, lol. Anyways it's all awesome. The music, the singing, the video. Very...MGMTish? Best chill rockers out there. You have to BLAST this song to really appreciate how awesome it is. It makes you feel so powerful, like you can face anything in the world! That jerk at school/work, your parents yelling at you all the time, who ever! You know they're wrong!

Someone says you're defiant? No - confident, right, headstrong! Keep your head up and do what you have to do. Maybe it's time to do/say what you've wanted to all long! Good luck & believe in yourself!

lhdlskzfuhy!!! Sorry. I don't know what's up with all my internet problems. I'm trying to get it sorted.

Anyways I put this song up cuz I'm in a "heavy" mood. I find vocally this is not Deftones' heaviest song but the guitar is really killer. So it sorta makes up for it/fills in the gaps. Not to mention the chorus is great.

I also can't help but love this video. I don't know why...punks are appealing to me? The blond guy is pretty cute xD Lol, sorry this is getting totally off track. I'll just hurry and get song 23 up now.

Song 21 - Superstition by Stevie Wonder

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDZFf0pm0SE

OK, I know this song is completely Awol and different from the rest of the songs on this list. I mean it's a jazz/funk song. Sorry for those of you that don't like this drastic difference, it's just a 1 time thing.

I'm learning to play this song in band (alto saxophone) and I can't get it out of my head. It's such an awesome, funky, groovey song. The hardest song I've learnt yet, but still having fun with it.

I hope you can just let loose and enjoy the fun-ness of this song. Try not to bob your head to the tune! There's got to be some variey in the list or it would be soooo boring. The rock/alternative/metal/normal returns tomorrow. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy!

Anways, this is such a sweet song. Awwww. C'mon there needs to be a couple cute songs on he list, right! Seriously, I think of this band,, I think cute. Song 17 - Where I'd Gone by Aleka's Attic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSKVfD1E77s

A lovely song by a ltttle band called Aleka's Attic. Few people have heard of this band, probably due to the lack of songs out on CDs because of Michael Stipe. Also, the lack of material period due to the band breaking up because of frontman, River Phoenix's death.

I wish that they could've been around longer so we'd have more to listen to, but it makes what there is more precious. I really wish that River hadn't died, RIP Rio. He was such a beautiful person, and had a gorgeous voice. I could listen to Aleka songs over and over all day long. They sound like hippie meets 90s. A very rare sound that is their own sound. I don't think the sounds has been repeated nor will it ever be. It's aclectic, unique, and beautiful.

I wish the remaining members of this band (including River's sister) long, happ, and healthy lives. I wish the same for you too readers. Now I'll leave you with this beautiful song.

Song 15 - Gotta Get Away by The Offspring

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6jz1hewTzA

Dang! So much great music came out of the 90s. This song is an example of epic punk that came out during the 90s. Continues to make me wish I was older so I could clearly remember these times.

Anyways this song is so fucking epic. You can relate to it, everyone has had atleast 1 time in their lives when they wished they could runaway from....well from themselves. If you haven't I think you must be some corprate robot android or something. You know just a day where it seems to keep going downhill, everything goes wrong, and it's just shit? Yeah, you know.

Song 14 - Blow at High Dough by The Tragically Hip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGRNEJiD3PY

I was wondering what song to put up next when I heard this song on the radio. Then I figured, yeah! Why not put up a Hip song? It is very awesome after all. I then realized how many songs I like are by Canadians. Which is just a nice little thing, to notice your country has produced a lot of people with very good music. I've known this before, but it's become more apparent in making this list, a lot of my favourite songs are older than I am. It would've been cool to hear these songs when they just came out. Not to say that they're not awesome anymore. Duh, I wouldn't put a song on the list if it wasn't awesome. Man, I just wish I could've been born earlier.

I like the message we hear in the chorus: " Well sometimes the faster it gets the less you need to know. But you gotta remember the smarter it gets the further it's gonna go..." It's so true. Occasionally there are moments in life when things just speed by and all we need do is enjoy. Most of the time we have to remeber though, be smart about something and you can take it surprisingly far. A great message accompanied by great music is a winning combo for a great song. :)

Song 13 - My Friends by Red Hot Chilli Peppers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vwftjIxPgA

I know RHCP are an amazing bad, with an extremely lengthy career spanning back into the 80s. With all their songs why choose such a relitively unkown song? As with the Cage the Elephant song I posted, this one is simply my favourite of theirs.

Also, I decided to post the alternative video, I love it so much more than the one they decided to release for the general public. I think is this video is way more artsy. More artsy = more awesome. A comment I read for this video was way too awesome to not repeat. "Anthony looks disturbingly good in a dress." xD I had to luahg at this, it's so funny because it's true.

In all seriousness though, this is such a lovely song. The meaning is so sweet and loving. It also happens to be a song about love. This is much closer to what you normally hear about love, but it's still awesome. Is it just me or does there seem to somehow be a sad undertone in the song?

Song 12 - Commit by Sean Dowdell and His Friends?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwx1iNTNuWU&feature=related
(live link by Grey Daze which included many of the same mebers as SDaHF?)

Sorry about not updating yesterday, was having some internet problems at home. To make up for it I shall do 2 posts today.

I'm not sure if SDaHF? was a moniker for Grey Daze or if it just happened to inlcude most of the same band members. The most famous band member is the lead singer, Chester Bennington. Currently in Linkin Park.

I love this song, it's a different twist on love that what you usually hear. It's more about giving up on a failed/failing relationship. Rather than Oh, I'd do anything for you my love. It's cool when you get to hear a different perspective on such a widely covered topic. My favourite lyric in the song -is also rather morbid- "Kill my depression, why don't I kill you?" How often do you hear that in a song about love? I'm guessing no often.

In conclusion, epic song, epic band.

Song 11 - It's Always Something by Cage the Elephant

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55_1_o8PnfY&playnext=1&list=PL61D46CD78338AD40
(the link is to a live video)

You many know this band by some more popular songs such as "Aint No Rest for the Wicked", "In One Ear", or "Shake Me Down". This song is my personal favourite though, whick is why I chose to share it instead of another more popular song. I find it's especially great sounding live. I don't know why but it sounds so much better than the album.

I know there's a lot of critique about CTE's live preformane. It's probably a 50/50 split. You either love Matt's flailing around or you think he looks like a complete idiot. I'm a lover! Why wouldn't you love someone getting really passionate and caught up in the music? It looks like the crowd is having a lot of fun with it too. I've always liked musicians that move around better than those who stand still. On another quick note about the live, I really looove Matt's voice in the end. It's so epic! What do you think? Anywhooo.....

Cage the Elephant are a great band. Out of a little town called Bowling Green in Kentucky, USA. One of the many many bands out there who deserve more credit than they actually get. I'm loving their new album. They are actually progressing in a positive direction, improving their sound as they get older. They don't sound like a lot of the new generic rock now-a-days. I'm loving a young band that brings back some 'old school' ideaolagy to their music. <3

Song 10 - Rope by Foo Fighters

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbpqZT_56Ns

In my opinion, this might just be the best Foo album yet. The cool thing about this album is it was recorded totally old school. They made it in Dave's garage and used all this old equipment. No computers, tapes people! They continued this trend all the way through mixing, and even incorporated it into the Rope video. Yes, it's meant to be old looking they didn't just skimp on the budget, lol. Even notice how the video messes up on the bottom of the screen?

About the song: I know this tends to happen, people always fall in love with the first single. I can't help it! This song is so damn good! It's slow and melodic at points, then you find your self waiting for the CHOKE when it's screamed, then you rock out to a guitar solo. Just a great song that you can have such fun listening to. Check out the rest of the album, cuz the whole thing's pretty great. :)

Song 8 - Do it the Right Way by Lastdime

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiC5Fy3c48w&feature=channel_video_title

GREAT SONG! This band is amazing! If you haven't heard of them yet check them out. Indie band from Brazil, I think they might finally be grunge coming back to life. Thank the Lord. I really hope these guys make it big, their music is great and they seem like nice guys (from the messages I've got from them).

This is my favourite song of their's. It's hot, steamy, gritty, and underground (for now). All the pieces of the puzzle fit. Gutiar, drums, bass, and those really unique vocals! Gah, they got me going gaga over them. There's sooo much I can say about this song, I don't even know where to start. Personally, I think the song is about what it takes to make it in the music industry and what entertainment has turned into now-a-days. Not quiet sure though, since the lyrics are a little confusing. Not saying that as a bad thing though. A lot of the best songs have super confusing lyrics. Plus you have to give them credit, I believe english is not their first language.

So, please check these guys out and check out the blog tom.
As usual, comments would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

Song 7 - Bad Medicine by Die Mannequin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol6C_KRDf4o

The less famous bad medicine, in my opinion it's just as good, if not better (in comparison to the Bon Jovi bad medicine, LOL). This is by the Canadian punk band Die Mannequin. I'm still surprised at how few people know of this band. They're so awesome and totally underrated. Then again a lot of the best bands are underrated. Which really sucks....anyways.

I find there's so many female singers out there, who I simply don't like. Not to be sexist, I am a girl afterall, but there are so many more male singers with good voices. Thankfully to go against the trend we have Care Failure. (Some other good female singers inlude Adele [already on the list] and Amy Lee.) Her voice rocks and adds so much of the necisarry attitude to this song and band. Not to say the other members aren't talented, but I just really need to give a rocking girl credit when she comes along! So listen to some bad medicine and have a great day.

Until tom,

Song 6 - Burden in My Hand by Soundgarden

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmIqIVxUuKs&feature=fvwrel

Happy Easter! Celebrate with some Soundgarden! Considered by some to be the fathers of 'grunge'. At the least they are the ones that started getting the sound out there. Now-a-days though, there's some great Soundgarden news. There's a reunion happening! You know what that means? Reunion tour! So you should check and see if they're playing anywhere near you.

About the song, I love this song. Somehow this song gets me in a good mood, pretty much every time I listen to it, despite what the lyrics are about. I think it's the guitar that does the trick. (Does it get you in a good mood? Comment and tell me.) A couple Soundgarden songs do that actually, ex. Spoon Man. Well, please comment about whatever you want. :)

Song 5 - Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDTZ7iX4vTQ

Such a great chill rock song. I find the first few times you listen to it you just listen to the music -that great bass line, the drum beat, and the sound of the lead singer's voice- and don't really pay attention to the lyrics. Well, pay attention to the lyrics! The song is about a homicidal kid! What?! How do you get such a chill easy going song when talking about such a thing? (I dunno!) It's amazing!

Seriously, this is one of the catchiest songs out there. (I sound a bit like a broken record, eh?) This song will literally get stuck in your head for hours. But thats OK because it's an awesome-sauce song. Personally though, I suggest only the album version. It sounds terrible live. Usually, I hate when a band sounds great on the album and suck live, but hey for this song I make an exception.

Song 4 - Rolling in the Deep by Adele

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw

I love this song by Adele. Her voice is so amazing that this song can cross musical genres and still be adored by many. I meant that voice...wow! It's so smooth, dreamy, and beautiful. One of my favourite female voices. Not much to say about this one -sorry I'm tired- but I'll finish it off with one final thought. She's so good that both my younger pop (Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Justin Beiber etc.) loving sister & I love this song! Talented much?

Song 3 - One More Astronaut by I Mother Earth

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cZT4vYiMxU&feature=related

First Canadian band on the list! Sadly, the band is no longer together but they were great while they lasted! The band broke up in a 2 step process. 1. Edwin (the lead singer) left the band, apparently he had no voice in the band. 2, Their 2nd label kicked them off because their latest album had been too 'heavy' for radio air play. Anyways....more about the song!

Well first off how can you go wrong with a 90s alternative Canadian band? I mean c'mon, with that fromula you've got a 99.9 % chance of being amazing. And it worked! I love this song it's so catchy and the lyrics are both deep and funny. Ex. "Thinking round the clock of drinking on the job. Never having sex and growing old...." I mean I hear (for you read I guess) and I can't help but see the humor in that.

Well, I've heard rumors of an IME reunion. I know you can't always believe rumors butttt sometimes they're true. Hopefully this ones true. *Cross my fingers.*

thoughts, comments, ideas, suggestions, whatever bellow would be appreciated. :)

Song 2 - Open Wounds by Skillet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edTFc1_vPe0

Hello :) Update #2. I was wondering what song to put up as number 2. There's so many great songs to choose from. Then, literally, a few minutes ago I came across this song. Open Wounds by Skillet. It must've been a sign or something because I can't get this song out of my head. As noted from a comment I read on my last post, I'll take a little more about the song this time.

Soooo the band skillet is a christian band, not what you guessed from this song, eh? I believe this song is about the lead singer, John's father. (There is however a newer song of their's in which John forgives his father.) I mean an emotion in itself isn't evil or bad. It's what you do when you feel that emotion that's evil or bad. Turning into an amazing song isn't bad. Right? This isn't their most popular song but I think it's filled with a little extra emotion compared to their others. It just so open and raw!

This is a song where if you ever feel like your stuck in a love/hate relationship this is great  to listen to. It's so relatable to your feelings. Honestly it's great if your just plain pissed at some one. Screw! It's a great listen any time!!!!

Anyways...comments would be appreciated. :) Till tom,

Song 1 - Crawling by Linkin Park

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd9OhYroLN0

Sooo, this is my first post. Thank you so much for any one reading this. This song is Crawling by Linkin Park. I had to start with this because Linkin Park is my favourite band of all time! I know this is one of their older songs, but after some consideration I decided it's my favourite. Actually, I love their new album (don't get me wrong) but I have to say I think Hybrid Theory will lways be my favourite album. What's really cool is I got to meet the guys of Linkin Park back in February, and they were the nicest guys! Anyways, hope you enjoy! Please leave your thoughts, opinions, ideas, and whatever bellow! Thanks!
